Mixed Martial Arts
The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) class is a complete program covering the broad spectrum of kicking, boxing, clinch, takedowns, grappling/ground fighting and skill/attribute training drills for a complete mixed martial artist enthusiast and/or competitor. This class derives it’s striking from Thai boxing and Boxing. The clinch is a combination of Thai boxing, “dirty boxing” and Greco Wrestling. Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling make up the takedown portion of this class. The ground fighting is a combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling.
MMA is probably the oldest sports in the world. Once called Pankration, MMA has found new life in the modern era through organizations such as the UFC. Students will learn a mixture of striking, grappling, takedowns and submissions.
Equipment Needed:
Shorts, T-shirt/Rashguard, and 16 oz Gloves. If sparring is involved additional equipment such as Shin pads, Head gear, Groin protection, Vale tudo gloves and a Mouthguard are recommended.
Class Times:
All Levels: Monday at 6:00pm and Saturday at 10:00am
SUBMISSION WRESTLING and NO-GI
Wrestling is a sport in which two unarmed opponents grapple with one another. The goals is to cause the opponent to lose balance and fall to the floor by throwing or tripping, and ultimately to pin the opponent's shoulders to the floor, through the use of body grips, strength, and leverage.
The sport of Wrestling is regarded by many, as the oldest sport in the world. Wrestling was part of the original Ancient Olympics and has been part of the modern Olympic movement since inception in 1896. Wrestling has gained much respect as a fighting art in the last decade with the emergence of MMA. It is one of the fundamental skills needed to compete at a high level.
Equipment Needed:
Shorts, T-shirt/Rashguard, Mouthguard, and Ear Protectors (Optional).
